Default Purple Firefish spawning

So I thought one of my purple firefish pair had died. But I have now realized that the two are taking turns tending a little area in behind some rock. I think they actually take turns coming out to eat. But always one is back there and sometimes both (I can see them in their little cave). I cannot see an egg mass. But I did some reading on MOFIB and I am pretty sure that is what is happening.

Unfortunately it sounds like pretty much no one has any experience with raising firefish. They give some huge range of time for the eggs to hatch (8 to 28 days I think it said!). So the chances of raising the little guys are nil. TOo bad as it would be cool to have a bunch of purple firefish fry!

Let me know if you know anymore about this!

Default Firefish

I'm sorry I don't know anything about raising firefish fry, but I'm really happy for you, Kim. I hope you get some babies.

Don't have a clue either but things sure like to spawn at your house not so here. Good luck and hope that things will workout.

Thanks. Well I just am not sure I can do anything. I can still see them protecting something. Sometimes both firefish, sometimes just one. Just lying side by side. Quite strange.

LOL, maybe. I have not been able to make it work with the Banggais or the seahorses yet. It would be ironic if the first fry I actually was able to get/raise were something so unusual!!

They are still busily tending. Sometimes just one of them, sometimes both. Very devoted parents at this point.

Still going on. Today I saw the one out and the second peek its head out, steal some food and go back in. So at least I know they are both still alive.

LOL

I dont know exactly but I think it has been around two weeks, maybe 2.5 weeks. I looked back at the thread I had about one hiding and it was the 18th and I know if had been under a week at that point.

Bad thing is nothing I read pinpoints it any finer than " 8 to 28 days". Nice. I am planning on getting some rotifers in the next week or so and turkey basting them in to their little hidey hole for a few days. Not sure what else to do.

I expect the sign that they have hatched will be when the two parents start coming out together again and then for sure I will put rotifers in there. Hoping I have some population of critters in the tank to sustain a few but not really hopeful.
