Here's the deal, Iv'e been working with acrylic for years. The sump that I made is Line bent (heat) bent on the two (2) long edges on the bottom. I relieved the edges on the corners of the baffles that would be adhered to the heat bent corners. I tried to stay away from the line bends with the methylene chloride knowing from experience that if it made contact, it would craze(tiny micro cracks). Unfortunatly, capilary action drew the solvent further than I wanted it to and it crept into the corner. When I glued the parts my garage was about 65 degrees. When it was all done and curing in a cold garage, the acrylic cracked in the corners. Typical with the combination of methylene chloride and a big drop in temp while curing. I should have known but it was a late nighter and I wasn't thinking. Now I'm faced with the fix. The only way to fix a stress crack in acrylic is to drill a small hole (1/16") at the end of the crack to prevent spreading than seal the crack. The best way would be to use weld on (40) a 2 part gap filling epoxy. Mine is all dried up and I wanted a quick fix with silicone. What do you guys think?
