Default hydroidean colonies

Hi, my live rock has patches of hydroids on it. LFS is soaking the affected rocks in RO water. Also adding something that will kiill it...along with other beneficial bacteria. Rats. Also see white feathery , very small, "things' on other rocks. Wetwebmedia states that these will go away on their own, yet another form of hydroids.....Any of you experts have any experience with these. I am bummed, have done water changes, Water has been great....just put our two first fish in yesterday, 2 perculas. I am not treating all of the rocks at once because I do not want to totally disrupt the biological filter benefits. Will put treated rock back in, then wait for it to re-cycle. Any advice, please, we are bummed....have been soooo careful.

Is there that many of these patches??? I have had success at super gluing a few closed that I have had in the past and have had no problems but this also depends on the type of hydroids. Depending on how many you have depends on the amount of trouble I would go to to get rid of them. if you end up having to take out a lot of rock and there is a chance of a re-cycle I would add some stability. Gosh I recommend that a lot but I have had great success with this stuff!!!!

Pull the rock and mash em with a hammer. Clean rock and return to tank. Stability to maintain cycle.

Most of them are really not problematic. Most coral will eventually outcompete them in a healthy system.

I hate hydroids! I had them bad a few years back and tried finding a way to kill them. I ended up having a good success and killing them off with a thick mix of Kalk paste.

I tried the following with no luck..all of which was advised from other people:

Lemon juice
Hot water (just after boiling it)
AptasiaX
Joe's Juice

I think the syper glue thing would work and after they're dead you could easily get the glue back off.
