Wow, that stand is gorgeous. I'm sure I'm not seeing something, but I got chills when I looked at how the top doors work. Are they more secure than simply a dowl? Over time, they will wear? And you have a little person at home. My little boy spends alot of time in front of the tank, I'd be afraid of a freak accident where one falls off and hits him.... And knowing you they aren't light, cheap particle board......

your corals are very very happy looking!

The way they are designed to fit, it's pretty snug. Over time it may become less snug, but the length of the dowel prevents it from backing out. The only chance of the door falling out is if you tilt the canopy forward, at a very steep angle (tested this myself at the shop).

This is the second canopy I have done like this and it works surprisingly well. The first one I built turned out kinda ugly (I goofed the stain job and it didn't match the other older canopy well) and then I built this system. The first one had shorter dowels and even then, the fit was very snug and secure.

A very good concern, but the doors aren't coming off easily. Momma wouldn't let me use something that would leave a crater in his noggin!

And you would be exactly right except that the plywood I used (standard 3/4" A-1 grade birch ply) is actually lighter than 3/4" particle board. The doors aren't really all that heavy, although it certainly wouldn't feel good to get bonked on the head.

And thanks for the comment on the corals! This is the nicest tank I've ever had. Diligence is the key. I keep up with skimmer cleaning (you have NO choice but to clean a Coralife Super Skimmer every few days, lol) and dosing small amounts of Vitamin C twice a day.

I also just started dosing Microbacter7 yesterday. We'll see if it helps.

That sounds very good . There are some LFS's that have that diamond-blade band saw that can cut it easier than a dremel would.

Cactus pavona, encrusting on a beer bottle (hard to notice the bottle shape in this pic)

Thanks man, this is definitely my favorite acro.

Right now my favorite SPS is that big hydnophora I have in there, but once this tricolor gets to rockin, that may change.

I also added in one of Raaden's Deepwater purple acros. Right now it's turd brown but should color up quite nicely soon.
