Default colors of sand

So I bought the ecocube (a solana as it turns out). I am going to set it up for clowns/anemone. I am going to TRY a small RBTA since I like them so much. And will net the clowns in with it eventually.

Anyway, I was thinking of using a different color sand. I know there is black sand but what other choices are there (without getting gaudy).

I have plain white sand in my 150G, and bare bottom in my 55G. Thought I would have something different again in the 24 cube.

I am not going to get a sand sifting goby as I had planned as I do not want to have to put a lid on it. So it does not necessarily have to be fine enough for a sifter.

Any ideas?

I used the CaribSea Indo-Pacific black. Which is a mix of black & white. They also have pinks... CaribSea Arag-Alive | Special Grade Reef Sand | Indo Pacific Black | Fiji Pink | Bahamas Oolite | West Caribbean Reef | Florida Crushed Coral | Bimini Pink

Kim, my sump has the Caribsea black/white mix. My Biocube has Nature's Ocean Bio-Active Black sand and my Pipefish tank has Nature's Ocean Bio-Active Australian Gold. I actually have an extra bag of Australian Gold. My old corner tank had Nature's Ocean Samoa Pink.

Blitz, when I had Samoa Pink only, it was still kind of subtle. All the lighter colored ones I have tried end up being about the same unless you have another tank close by with another color. IMO...you really have to go to dramatically different colors...like black...to get a different effect. But...subtle differences are good too. Just depends on what you are looking for.

Well black would be a good contrast I expect. With the purple rocks and a rose bubble tip. And maybe a pair of picassos

The indo pacific black is the only sand I know of that is a color and still aragonite. Lovely sand, it is - only sold live, though, from what I recall.

The pinks and such never look pink to me....

I am sure you will like the info pacific black, CritterHeaven, it really does make for a striking tank! =)
