I'm at the 10 Month period. I have changed my substrate and my Crushed coral over to Sand about 2 Inches. I got rid of some agressive fish and am focused on the Reef.....The lack of coralline is really puzzling as I add purple Up and dose Reef Builder and Calcium. I just don't see the coralline growth thAT i should. How do I speed up Coralline growth???

Coralline growth is a function of pH, Hardness(Ca++ & Mg++) and Alkalinity.

There is really no magic formula for coralline....other than mix right ingredients and wait. Also coralline sucks up Mg, Ca, and Carbonate complexes...... know it looks pretty but it will compete with your corals for essential ions.

+1. And it's not just your levels today... it's your levels over time and the stability of the parameters. (Which, your's look good by the way!)

At the risk of sounding like a jerk... toss the Purple Up stuff in the trash. (No offense) Not that coralline won't grow in low light because it will but what kind of lighting do you have and have you changed it at all recently?

If you want to increase coralline growth and your parameters are stable over long periods of time... Take some some rock with coralline already on it and brush it under water with a stiff toothbrush. (Seed the tank with coralline)

This is a good technique, toothbrush scrubbing a well encrusted piece of lr and let the spores disperse... one note, turn off all pumps, completely still water and let everything settle, you may even take a non encrusted piece and let the spores settle right on top of it.

First off do you have any purple or red in your tank already? Coralline comes in white, red, green, and purple, so you most likely just have the white variation in your tank. If not, I would ask somebody for some purple or red "scrapings" from their tank. This will also help seed your tank.
Once it gets started it will be a never ending battle to keep your tank clear enough to see in it.

Purple Up may not be worth the money, but I don't think it is worth going in the trash..... Realistically it is just calcium with a few other things thrown in, pretty much it is part A of any typical A and B method.

Lol, I'll take it, may have to dump most of the bottle in any of my systems, but a dose is a dose, eh? =)

I am curious about your MH - are they 10, 14, or 20K? I see you have actinic supplemental lighting - so if you have a very blue 20 k MH perhaps this is why.....

when i added some new live rock to my tank it turned white after a week and then about 3 weeks later the coralline took off great, i bought some small pieces of rock with tons of coralline on them and seeded the tank like said above, scrubbed it some in the tank and now its covering the tank great.
