Marimo moss ball

I bought a marimo moss ball a few months ago and the thing has gotten massive sprawling all over so much so that its taking away light from other plants. Does anyone know if it's possible to trim this so it can be placed somewhere else to grow? Is that even an option? I have a small planted cube I'm new to the whole aquatic plant deal.

Can you get a close-up picture of one or few stems? From this photo it looks more like a true moss (Java moss, Christmas moss, etc) than a Marimo moss ball, which is really an alga (Cladophora). Either way, yes, you can pull or cut it into multiple pieces and give away the excess.

Also I heard that those marimo moss ball is slow growing. I'm guessing that's not what I bought at all. But that's good to know I can cut it up
