This happening when the main return pipe is too fast, do you mean the water is collecting ...collecting ...collecting ... and then like flushing? If this is it, you need a valve on the main return pipe so you can close it a little bit until it's smooth.

B.C., I,m trying to wrap my old brain around what you are saying. Is the start/stop in an internal OF area, or in the sump? Thanks because I saw two topics discussed...if its the drain, a drilled hole will assist for siphon (drain pipe , as I'm sure you already know) as well as an inline gate valve over a socket ball valve since it is mainly for shut off, or mostly open, (hard to dial in) LEGEND VALVE 1-1/2 in. PVC Solvent Socket Ball Valve-S-600 - The Home Depot whereas the gate valve is easily adjusted to minor increments. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/spear...4d2b6a88a.html

*Both can be located at Home Depot, and sometimes both at Lowe's.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I do have a ball valve on the overflow entering the sump and did close it a little and did resolve the problem. Happy it was a easy fix.
