I quarantined some new neons and found one had ich. I treated the entire tank with heat and salt, 85 F and about one tablespoon per 5 gallons, and 50% water changes everyday while replenishing the salt. I did this for like 10 days. I thought the treatment was successful because I had seen no darting/flashing, or white spots for the last five days, so I did a 50% water change last night to reduce the salinity while maintaining the heat. Today, just one of my neons is a little bloated and gasping at the surface. Could this just be an acclimation problem where I took out the salt, or is something else going on? The other eight neons seem fine.

I dont think the salt removal would cause that. 1 Tbsp/gal is only about 1 g/L (ppt) which doesnt seem like much of an osmotic load for a fish. His internal salinity (blood and cellular fluid) is around 8 to 10 g/L. I think that one may have other issues, unrelated to salt or ich (unless maybe he suffered more gill damage from ich than the others).
