I just bought a used 300 gal tank came with a 30 gal sump is that large enough for a closed system? Also need protein skimmer any suggestion on brand thanks

depending on the dimensions, a 30 gallon sump would probably be big enough for your equipment, but what you need to worry about is back flow from the display tank water if the power gets shut off. There is no way a 30 gallon tank will be big enough to contain the drainage.

I am assuming its a 30 breeder, in which case it is big enough but I would look at a 50 breeder. I'd avoid a 55-75 as they are taller and can make working in the sump difficult

I like shorter sumps too... should have plenty of room for a larger breeder size one or hook two 40b up together... can fill one entire one up w/ rock/macro and the other with equipment...
