Let me preface this by saying I'm a novice to coral and this is my first attempt at making a reef tank. I've picked up a few pieces over the last few weeks, more just browsing and purchasing whatever looks interesting.

I purchased this piece yesterday and have noticed what seems to be tentacles protruding from the back of the rock with bulbs on the end. I know some coral feed in this manner so I'm just curious if this is typical? It's not protruding from anywhere but from the back.

haha honestly, i'm not entirely certain. I'm so new to this and i ask about so many pieces, by the time i leave a lfs i've forgotten exactly what it was called.

I do believe it's supposed to be this species of brain:

I can see the sweepers but they're a lot smaller than those I took the pic of which are protruding from the back of the frag.
