wow very suprized there no post here i went to this shop last week and was amazed at the corals there so many acans and acros plus more the kind of stuff you see an ebay only and more plus the guy that runs the place was quick to say hello which is always great
Yes I agree I liked the store. Nice setup and lots of things to look at. However I do not care for a store where prices are not posted on things and you have to ask what ever coral cost. Among other things as well.
I am not saying every coral but the last time I was in there they had fish labeled for sale and prices and they had 2 small tanks that had pre-priced frags in it. But the other 2 large tanks there was nothing. You had to ask about every piece.
I know Down Under and Sea Critters list a lot of their prices
I can see why you would be frustrated on having to ask about the prices but at the same time I don't know too many stores that put prices on their show tanks.
Never been to Reefkeepers but plan to go one day as I have heard great things abotu them!!!!
On the subject of prices though which is totally off the subject of reefkeepers as I cannot speak for them as I have never been but plan to hopefully on the 31st if I can find my way
EDITED to delete as my comments had nothing to do with this topic I derailed the thread sorry!!! I was going off on non priced things at other stores :-({|=
It kills me when I walk into a store and ask a price of a non priced coral and then have a friend ask about the same coral and we get 2 different prices
I've been in ReefKeepers a few times myself and thought they had a neat setup. I'm not into corals yet, but as far as prices go I'm not really comparison shopping when it comes to something I really want. If I want it I get it.
The owner talked with me for awhile the 1st time I went in there which means alot to me.
I'm a big fan of Bill and Reef Keepers. It certainly helps that they are 10 minutes from my house !
I was blown away the first time I went in the store, I was pretty much new to the hobby at the time, but I still feel the large tanks mounted low like that are the best way to display a lot of the corals.
The crew is always helpful, the selection is impressive and Bill has taken a lot of time explaining things and helping me, despite the fact that I have been in low budget maintenance mode for pretty much the last 16 months since my daughter was born. 95% of the time I am just buying water. In fact just a few weeks ago I was buying a product and was questioned at the register whether I had thought about another product because they liked it better and it was half the cost. That type of help means a lot when you are trying to keep your expensive hobbies during a time in your life when the funds aren't quite as free as they have been !
It can be frustrating when things aren't priced, but for me it usually ends up in a conversation about the coral / fish and its requirements.
If I have any complaint, it would be that Reef Keepers seems to cater more to the larger tank, higher budget customer. Often there is not a lot that will even fit in my little 46 gallon ! I think that is about to be rectified with the new rack though. Oh, and I learned the first or second visit to not walk in to the bathroom over by the tanks #-o
I was in there today and there isnt much for frags. they had a ton of SPS frags but when it came to mushrooms and zoas. Most were attached to huge rocks and that does me no good.
However I was able to pick up a few single shrooms today.
Also it looks like they are working on a new tank system and from what I hear they will house frags in the same price range. I think thats cool
read some of your replies, give the guy a break, if you a newby are looking for some cheap coral that is prob going to die then go to the other stores in town. ol school reefers that know quality will not go anywhere else.
Sorry to see things haven't changed much. I witnessed a somewhat similar situation in '07. Didn't take me but 5 seconds to walk out the door and never return.
On the other hand they do have a selection or coral.
Wow. I'm sorry to hear that you had an experience like that. I go there all the time. I know he seems opinionated but it's just cause he is very passionate about what he does and likes to give you an honest answer. Which sometimes is nice instead telling you anything to try and make a sale. Although I would have to say his prices on equipment is really good and he gets livestock in that you have never seen before. For those who haven't gone yet I would suggest that you take time to check it out for yourself.
Yea if you hang around and get to know Bill he is like the most straight up guy you will meet at a LFS
And he dosn't bring in the run of the mill corals and you get what you pay for. And if you see something in the tanks you want all you have to do is ask, He frags all the time !!
i've been in there before and they were still setting up all the tanks. Thought it was going to be a pretty good shop. Stopped by again this past week and walked out with nothing.
Overpriced on the fish and corals and the guy helping me had to make a phone call every time I asked about the price of something. Nothing was marked. Luckily i only had questions about 3 things lol. I stopped asking at that point and left.
I did pick up some food there one time I went but have yet to pick up any livestock. Most of the stuff was marked last time I went but the prices were a tad steep.
I would first like to apologize to anyone who has had a bad experience at Reef Keepers. The loud music and fighting have been addressed and will not happen again. Please introduce yourself to me and I will try to make up for your experience.
The new invert system is up and running! There are over 300 small frags of Zoo's, mushrooms, leather corals, xenia ect..., I've set this up, so everyone looking for small pieces can find them easily. They're priced from $5-$45. As far as pricing in large tanks. I can not mark every price, you would not be able to see in the tanks. There is over 500 pieces. I have new labels on the way and I will make general price lists at the ends of each tank. The labels I originally tried to use kept melting when they got wet.
I'm trying to become more retail oriented. My life passion is Reef Keeping. I only have an honest answer. Stability is the key to success, not an additive, remedy or some other band-aid. Happy Reefing, Bill
I wanted to stop by again today but you guys closed at 5:30, not 6.
Bill, do you have any purple tangs in right now and if so for how much? I am looking for one about 3".
