My tank stand is showing some wear and tear after about ten years. The doors and hinges could be removed for painting/replacement. But I was wondering, assuming I don't drip paint into the tank or sump, could the rest of the stand be touched up with the tank still running. Realize there would be no margin for error--so to speak. Thoughts?

I'm getting ready to put another coat on my stand when it warms up. I've actually painted two other stands on running systems.

I painted my 180 stand with Behr satin while it was running. No problem Just don't spray paint! hahahaha

Hey thanks. A guy here (who was probably trying to sell me a stand) said you had to be wary of "fumes." That's what I was worried about. File that one in "Roswell Area 51." Glad to know others have done it successfully.

If your really worried about fumes paint with a fan and windows and doors open cycling the air in your house will help with the tanks PH anyways
