Despite my best efforts to get clean water, I am still getting silicates in the system. Perhaps from the salt. I dunno. Maybe the cat is sneaking them in when I am not looking. Anyway, I have given up the fight. If you have any small rocks with sponges on - please give me a shout. I have a tank they will be very happy in.

Keep this in mind. If you have any conglomerate rock or travertine in your tank, or any rock with any grains of sand that were incorporated during compaction you will always have silicates in the tank. Are the silicates causing you a problem? GFO will scrub silicates out as well as PO43-. I actually run one tank with 100% NC beach sand. disclaimer: yes it was legally collected. This tank actually has one of my highest growth rates. Just wondering what the problem is.
